Town to write provincial ministers to voice Bighorn concerns

Jan 16, 2019 | 2:47 PM

Rocky Mountain House Town Council is writing Environment Minister Shannon Phillips to share concerns over the impact of the Bighorn County proposal.

Council is worried that enforcement and healthcare costs may see an increase if a new provincial park is created. They also believe more public consultation is needed before a decision is made.

“We have seven thousand people in town, some are opposed and some are in favor, and so it’s not fair for us to take one side or the other,’ says Mayor Tammy Burke.

As the Town has no authority over the Bighorn jurisdiction itself, councillors will continue to encourage and facilitate, where possible, consultation between residents and the provincial government.
