Notre Dame musical theatre students set to perform

Jan 15, 2019 | 1:34 PM

Musical theatre students from École Secondaire Notre Dame High School are pleased to showcase “Do You Wanna Dance?”, on February 7-9 at the Red Deer Memorial Centre (4214 58 St, Red Deer, AB T4N 2L6).

Shows are set for February 7, 8 and 9 at 7:00 p.m. with a matinee on Saturday, February 9 at 1:00 p.m. Tickets are $20/person and are available in advance at the school or at the door.

There will be two dress rehearsals, Saturday, January 26 (all day at the school) and Monday, February 4 (5:00-9:00 p.m. at the Memorial Centre), both of which media are welcome to attend.  Additionally, there will be a special media preview on Wednesday, February 6 at 2:00 p.m. at the Memorial Centre and media are welcome to attend.

“This is show is completely different than anything we have done recently. It is a light-hearted story of a town that loves to dance, full of campy characters and high energy dance numbers to crowd-pleasing pop tunes from the 60s-90s. This show has given students an opportunity to grow different skill sets, in particular, their dancing,” said Director Stephanie Layden, at École Secondaire Notre Dame High School.

“I have finally found a place where I could be myself and not hold back, a place where I could push myself and do what I loved at the same time,” said Kylee Balaneski, musical theatre student.

“Musical theatre gives me the opportunity to learn about myself and I get to form amazing new friendships in the process,” said Keith Kunaka, musical theatre student.

“Do You Wanna Dance?” Is a story about the world of snap-happy Ohio where everyone loves to dance, with the exception of the Mayor’s new wife. This family-friendly story is about what a community can achieve when they come together for a common cause and features popular music from the 1960-80’s. It is sure to have you signing, chucking and tapping your toe until the curtain falls. (https://www.mtishows.com)
