Charity auction for heart attack victim who recovered 400 vehicles

Jan 13, 2019 | 4:06 PM

A man who has helped Red Deer RCMP recover more than 400 stolen vehicles now needs the community’s assistance.

Formerly identified only as ‘DM,’ Jason Carson has been in and out of the ICU at Red Deer Regional Hospital with health complications.

Around the same time in April 2018 that Carson was honoured by the local RCMP detachment for his efforts, he suffered a heart attack. Since then he’s been diagnosed with diabetes, and needless to say, the situation has made life rather difficult for his family, including his wife, 11-year-old daughter and three-year-old son.

To help the family, a charity auction has been set up by a Facebook page called ‘Community Crime Watch Group.’ About 70 items have been contributed thus far.

A friend of Carson’s, Jennifer Skogsberg, says he has done more for the residents of central Alberta than can be summed up.

“Jason has always wanted a safer community for his family, friends and neighbours. This guy is so compassionate, he has helped families that are struggling, he has helped friends and family with health concerns, put food on tables, fed the homeless and he has done all this while raising a young family and maintaining a career for years,” Skogsberg says.

“Jason’s health recently took a turn and he has had to adjust his lifestyle to the point where he has been off work for months. With the cost of life, medical care/treatment and travel, Jason and his family need our help. This young man’s life changed drastically the day that he suffered a heart attack, and he has fought to be here with his kids and wife. Let’s help him reduce stress and focus on his health and his family.”

Once the online pre-bidding is finished at midnight Jan. 18, all items will be set up Jan. 19 and 20 at the Riverside Meadows Community Centre (6021-57 Ave.) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. so further bids to be made.
