1995 Canada Winter Games time capsule to be opened next week

Jan 9, 2019 | 9:08 AM

Before Red Deer welcomes the country for the 2019 Canada Winter Games next month, the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum will take us back to the last time the event was hosted in our province.

A time capsule from the 1995 Canada Winter Games held in Grande Prairie will be cracked open on January 15, 2019 at 10 a.m. The contents will then be displayed at the museum throughout the 2019 Canada Winter Games.

Items were collected by the 1995 Canada Winter Games torchbearers as they travelled through the 16 Alberta Communities on their way to Grand Prairie. These items were placed in the AGT Spirit of Alberta March of Champions Time Capsule, to be opened the next time an Albertan community hosts the Canada Winter Games.

Once the 1995 time capsule has been opened a new one will be started for the 2019 Games.

Also at the Jan. 15 event, the 2019 Canada Winter Games Host Society will be announcing the names of the Red Deer torchbearers for the MNP Canada Games Torch Relay.
