Work camp killer will stay in Alberta Hospital

GRANDE PRAIRIE- Daniel Goodridge will remain in custody at Alberta Hospital in Edmonton.

After a hearing in December, the Alberta Review Board, concluded he was still a threat to public safety and ruled he was not entitled to an absolute discharge.

A six-page report noted Goodridge had no community support like a job, a place to live, or any psychiatric care or any other professional services.

The treatment team said that no support could lead to increased stress should he be let out, which could lead to him stopping any treatment he may be under and, eventually, to him becoming violent again.

Goodridge, who has schizophrenia, will stay in hospital for treatment under several conditions, including maintaining his mental health and not to use alcohol, cannabis, or other non-prescription drugs.

He would be permitted passes to be in Edmonton and area, but he would have to be under supervision and such passes would be given out only if his treatment team says it is okay.

In 2015, Goodridge killed 50-year-old Hally Dubois of Red Deer and 37-year-old David Derksen of La Crete near Fox Creek.

During his trial, experts testified that Goodridge had been hearing voices and believed his co-workers wanted to assault him.

Last November, Goodridge was found not criminally responsible for the stabbing deaths.

Judges, doctors, lawyers, and several members Hally Dubois’ family attended the hearing.
