Oil and gas rally planned for Rocky Mountain House

Dec 28, 2018 | 9:31 AM

Central Alberta residents are once again being encouraged to show their support for the oil and gas industry through a rally planned for the Town of Rocky Mountain House Saturday, Dec. 29.

The rally is slated to take place at the Lou Soppit Community Centre (5404 48 St.) from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. with featured speakers expected to explain the importance of getting Alberta back on track.

Officials with Oilfield Dads and Rally4Resources say government regulations are suffocating the Canadian oil and gas industry, so they are fighting to revive the country’s economy.

The organizations say there is an estimated 1.4 billion cubic metres of unconventional oil resources in the oil-sands alone, with Alberta leading Canada as the largest oil producer, not to mention the province’s natural gas, conventional oil, coal, and mineral sectors.

Officials claim 2019 will be a pivotal year for those employed in the Canadian oil & gas industry and the economy as a whole, with more than 500,000 Canadians earning a living in the oil and gas industry.

A joint news release issued by the organizations says, ”The devastating price drop of Western Canadian Select Oil is not only crippling our economy, but our families, our jobs, our province, and our nation. The future of our industry is at stake. We must get a pipeline built and gain market access in 2019.”

Officials point-out rallies have been held across the country over the last year, with letters having been sent, petitions signed, and multiple groups that have shown both federal and provincial governments that the silent majority supports the industry.

The release goes on to say that shovels are needed in the ground right now.

“Oilfield Dads and Rally4Resources are pleased to have helped Rocky Mountain House resident, Stephen Petersen, with a rally set for this Saturday. We anticipate  well over five hundred people from Central Alberta to join this pro-oil and gas rally, with a selection of speakers from politics to local business owners and industry spokespeople; showing our unwavering support for the oil and gas industry and new pipeline development.”
