Kings volleyball and Queens basketball in action over holidays

Officials with RDC athletics encourage Red Deerians to check out some exciting exhibition games involving Red Deer College teams over the holidays.

The RDC Kings Volleyball team will host the Kings Christmas Tournament from December 28-30 at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre, featuring some of the top men’s volleyball teams from across the nation.

The tournament is expected to give fans an early look at potential matchups at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Volleyball National Championship being hosted by RDC from March 6 – 9, 2019 at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

The Fanshawe Falcons (Ontario Colleges Athletic Association), Keyano College Huskies (Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference), Limoilou Titans (Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec) and Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners of the Pacific Western Athletic Association (PacWest) will be competing in the tournament.  

Tickets to the Kings Christmas Tournament can be purchased online and are suggested to be the perfect gift for volleyball fans.

Elsewhere, the Red Deer College Queens Basketball team will participate in the North-South Challenge Tournament, from December 28-29 in Edmonton.   

Here is a summary of the non-conference games that will be played:

Kings Christmas Tournament | Friday, Dec. 28 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre  

Keyano vs. Limoilou 1:00 p.m.

RDC vs. VIU 3:00 p.m.

Both teams finished the first half of the season with an identical 8-4 record in their respective conferences. The RDC Kings are ranked eighth in the CCAA.   

Fanshawe vs. Limoilou 6:00 p.m.

RDC vs. Keyano 8:00 p.m.

The RDC Kings (8-4) will challenge the Keyano College Huskies (13-1). The Huskies remarkably lead the ACAC North Division by six points over the NAIT Ooks (10-4) and are ranked third in the CCAA.

Fanshawe vs. Keyano 1:00 p.m.

VIU vs. Limoilou 3:00 p.m.

Fanshawe vs. RDC 6:00 p.m.

The Kings will compete against last season’s CCAA silver medalists, the Fanshawe Falcons (9-0). The Falcons are having a tremendous season in the OCAA, winning 27 sets and not dropping a single one. Fanshawe is ranked number one in CCAA Men’s Volleyball. 

Keyano vs. VIU 8:00 p.m.  

Kings Christmas Tournament | Sunday, Dec. 30 | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

Fanshawe vs. VIU 12:00 p.m.

RDC vs. Limoilou 2:00 p.m.

The RDC Kings (8-4) will challenge les Titans de Limoilou (6-2) of the RSEQ. Les Titans won last year’s national gold medal. The Titans are ranked sixth in the CCAA.   

 

Queens Basketball | Friday, Dec. 28 | 2:00 p.m. | NAIT  

The Red Deer College Queens continue to make improvements every week and have been the strongest rebounding team in ACAC Women’s Basketball.

In exhibition, the RDC Queens will compete against the Lakeland College Rustlers as part of the North-South Challenge Tournament in Edmonton. 

Queens Basketball | Saturday, Dec. 29 | 5:00 p.m. | NAIT          

The RDC Queens will face the host NAIT Ooks.
