ENDED: Wind warning for Red Deer and surrounding areas

The wind warnings issued Thursday afternoon for Red Deer and surrounding areas have ended.

A wind warning is in effect for Red Deer and central Alberta. 

Strong northwesterly winds are developing behind a fast moving cold front this morning. 

Winds gusting to 70 km/h will at times gust to 90 in the Edmonton Metro area this morning.

As the winds spread southeastward, strong gusts will reach the Red Deer, Lloydminster and Hanna regions by mid morning and continue through the afternoon.

The strong winds combined with falling snow will create brief poor visibilities on area roadways through the morning.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

Red Deer County near Penhold Innisfail and Bowden
Red Deer County near Pine Lake
Red Deer County near Spruce View and Red Lodge Prov. Park
Red Deer County near Sylvan Lake and Stephansson House

Lacombe County near Clive Alix and Mirror
Lacombe County near Eckville
Lacombe County near Lacombe Blackfalds and Bentley

Ponoka County near Ponoka and Maskwacis

County of Paintearth near Halkirk and Big Knife Prov. Park

County of Stettler near Big Valley
County of Stettler near Botha and Gadsby
County of Stettler near Byemoor and Endiang
County of Stettler near Donalda
County of Stettler near Stettler Nevis and Rochon Sands

Flagstaff County near Forestburg and Galahad

Camrose County near Bashaw and Meeting Creek

Several other wind warnings are in effect for areas between Edmonton and Lethbridge.
