Manslaughter charge laid in death of woman at Sunchild First Nation

Dec 13, 2018 | 3:35 PM

A 23-year-old woman has been charged with manslaughter in the death of a 25-year-old woman on the Sunchild First Nation.

RCMP identified the victim Thursday as Samantha Sharpe.

Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded at about 2:30 Wednesday afternoon to a call of a person in distress on the Sunchild First Nation. The arrived with EMS and found a woman dead.

A 24-year-old man was injured in the same incident, which RCMP said was as an assault with a weapon.

The suspect, who police determined knew the victim, was arrested without incident at a different location.

An autopsy performed Thursday in Edmonton determined Sharpe died as a result of homicide.

Chelsey Lagrelle from Sunchild First Nation has been charged with manslaughter and assault with a weapon. She remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Rocky Mountain House provincial court on Dec. 19.

RCMP continue to investigate but say they are not seeking other suspects and that the assault was “an isolated incident with no risk to public safety.”
