ALERT makes $1 million drug seizure in Edmonton

EDMONTON — The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team has charged three people are more than $1 million worth of drugs were seized in Edmonton.

The organized crime team seized 8.7 kilograms of cocaine, 216 grams of methamphetamine, 1,000 packages of cannabis resin, 8.6 kilograms of a cocaine buffing agent, two handguns and ammunition, and $44,800 in cash proceeds of crime, according to a news release on Wednesday.

ALERT says both seized handguns had their serial numbers removed.

The investigation began in October, and three homes in Edmonton were searched in November.

James Jackson, 44, from Edmonton, is charged with conspiracy to traffic cocaine, four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, production of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of proceeds of crime, and eight firearms-related charges.

Richard Comely, 37, and Scott Doberstein, 38, both from Leduc, were charged with conspiracy to traffic cocaine, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and production of a controlled substance.

All three were arrested on December 11.
