Gas station customers help Mountie arrest suspect in Penhold

An RCMP officer on patrol in Penhold received some help in apprehending a stolen vehicle suspect.

At about 7:30 a.m. Friday a lone Innisfail RCMP member observed a vehicle parked at the Esso gas station in Penhold.  The license plate on the vehicle was confirmed by police to be stolen and when police attempted to arrest the male driver he refused to comply and attempted to drive away. 

Police were forced to break the driver side window and an altercation ensued which resulted in some customers at the store responding to assist the lone police officer.  The male was successfully removed from the vehicle and arrested without further incident.

There were no injuries resulting from this incident.  The vehicle the male was driving was also confirmed by police as stolen.

Shaun Paul Martin, 35, of Ottawa, Ontario has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5000, obstructing police, resisting arrest, driving without a valid license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to stop for police.
