Central Alberta Mounties combine forces for warrant round-up

Dec 5, 2018 | 5:44 AM

CENTRAL ALBERTA- On November 30, as a result of a collaborative intelligence sharing approach, several people were arrested on a targeted warrant round-up.

Wetaskiwin, Maskwacis and Ponoka RCMP detachments along with the Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit all pooled resources in a effort to locate people wanted on outstanding warrants and take them into custody.

In total, 12 arrests were made which resulted in the execution of 19 existing arrest warrants, and two new breach charges laid.

While effecting one arrest, Ponoka General Investigation Section members located stolen vehicles on a rural property and were able to recover two stolen trucks and a stolen utility trailer, worth approximately $50,000.

Three people were arrested and two of three were charged in relation to this property.

Douglas Walter Chopey, 33, and Kristi Jean Schneider, 30, are both charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 (x3) and failing to comply with conditions.

Both have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear in Ponoka court on December 7.

“This round up showed positive results, and the recovery of stolen property even more so” says Sergeant Chris Smiley of Ponoka RCMP Detachment.  “We intend to be relentless in implementing different crime reduction strategies, and this cross border collaboration was just one of those strategies.”
