Man killed in Ponoka area crash

A 22-year-old man has died after the vehicle he was driving crashed on the QE II Highway near Ponoka. 

RMCP say the collision happened shortly after midnight this morning. 

Police say the vehicle was travelling southbound on the QEII south of Highway 53 when it lost control and struck a guardrail.  The vehicle came to rest facing north in the southbound lanes.

STARS Air Ambulance flew the man to hospital in Edmonton where he succumbed to his injuries.

There was only one occupant in the car, and no other vehicles were involved in this collision. Traffic was delayed while the scene was cleared up.

RCMP wish to thank the civilians who stopped and provided roadside assistance to the emergency responders.

The cause of this collision remains under investigation. No further details are being released.
