Garcia-Bernal, deWit named RDC Athletes of the Week

Red Deer College Athletics is proud to announce Sandra Garcia-Bernal and Mark DeWit as their latest Boston Pizza Athletes of the Week.

This past Saturday, Garcia-Bernal played an integral role in RDC Queens Basketball downing the Ambrose University Lions 74-55 at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

The second-year guard was remarkable on the boards, accumulating 18 rebounds, 14 points, five steals and three assists, receiving the Queens Player-of-the-Game award.

The Open Studies student from Valencia, Spain has been a key player on a young team this season, inspiring the group to work hard and progress week by week.

DeWit, from Lacombe, had a fantastic weekend on the court for Kings Volleyball, helping them win both matches against the Ambrose University Lions.

In Friday’s three-set victory (25-23, 25-16 and 25-15), the second-year middle accumulated four kills, two block assists, one dig and one assist while hitting for 50 per cent efficiency and being a strong net presence.

Saturday in a four-set win (25-27, 25-9, 25-21 and 26-24), deWit totalled 14 kills, three stuff blocks, one ace and one assist, and was named the Kings Player-of-the-Game.
