Freezing Rain Warning ENDED

UPDATE [Nov. 18, 8:30 a.m.] – The freezing rain warning issued for Red Deer and central Alberta has ended. 

Sunday’s forecast calls for periods of rain ending early in the afternoon, then cloudy with a high of two degrees.

Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for Red Deer.

Area impacted include:

Camrose Co. near Bashaw and Meeting Creek
City of Red Deer
Co. of Paintearth near Halkirk and Big Knife Prov. Park
Co. of Stettler near Big Valley
Co. of Stettler near Botha and Gadsby
Co. of Stettler near Byemoor and Endiang
Co. of Stettler near Donalda
Co. of Stettler near Stettler Nevis and Rochon Sands
Flagstaff Co. near Forestburg and Galahad
Lacombe Co. near Clive Alix and Mirror
Lacombe Co. near Eckville
Lacombe Co. near Lacombe Blackfalds and Bentley
Ponoka Co. near Ponoka and Maskwacis
Red Deer Co. near Elnora Lousana and Delburne
Red Deer Co. near Penhold Innisfail and Bowden
Red Deer Co. near Pine Lake
Red Deer Co. near Spruce View and Red Lodge Prov. Park

“An area of freezing rain is moving across western and central Alberta. Freezing rain is forecast to continue impacting areas between Rainbow Lake and Hinton until later tonight. Areas to the south and east will likely have freezing rain persist into Sunday morning. Freezing rain warnings may be expanded further as the system continues to develop.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
