RDC cross country runners named Boston Pizza Athletes of the Week

A pair of cross country runners have been named Red Deer College Athletics Boston Pizza Athletes of the Week.

 Red Deer native Jill Stewart is a Queens Cross Country Runner in her third year of the Occupational & Physical Therapist Assistant Diploma program and this past Saturday, had a strong race at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cross Country Running National Championships in Ontario.

Over 6 km, Stewart finished 10th overall with a time of 24:30 in a competitive field, leading the Queens to a national bronze medal in challenging running conditions.

With the top 10 finish, Stewart received the honour of being named an All-Canadian.

Kings Cross Country Runner Matthew Hope is also from Red Deer and has been among the top Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) male runners this year, in addition to proving his talent on the national circuit on November 10.

At the CCAA Cross Country Running National Championships, the third-year Bachelor of Education Secondary student finished third with a time of 28:01, earning national bronze over 8 km in snowy and cool temperatures.

Despite an ailing back, Hope showed a lot of heart and was named an All-Canadian for his outstanding bronze medal achievement.
