Two people accused of robbing the Leslieville Hotel at gunpoint will face a preliminary hearing.

Harvey James Lee-Bernick, 34, of Red Deer and Austin Derkatz, 22, of Rimbey were charged last month, nearly a year after the hotel was robbed on Oct. 14, 2017.

Rocky Mountain House RCMP say they used DNA evidence to identify and charge the pair.

Several patrons were in the hotel bar at the time of the robbery, but no one was injured. A large amount of money was taken from the bar and the two men fled in a waiting truck.

Lee-Bernick and Derkatz are each charged with robbery with a firearm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The preliminary hearing to determine whether the case will proceed to trial will take place in Rocky Mountain House provincial court on July 29, 2019.
