Wolf Creek losing bus funding due to Blackfalds population growth

Nov 6, 2018 | 9:27 AM

The continuing population boom in Blackfalds is hitting Wolf Creek Public Schools in the pocketbook.

In the town’s most recent census, the population in the Town of Blackfalds surpassed 10,000.

The province provides funding to bus students who reside over 2.4 kilometres from the school they attend. However, communities with populations of 10,000 or more receive less funding than do smaller communities.

As a result, Wolf Creek stands to lose $90,000 in provincial transportation funding, resulting in two route reduction which Wolf Creek officials say is “very difficult to do once school begins for the year.”
