Safety Compliance Team conducts latest round of bar and restaurant checks

Another round of safety checks at local restaurants and bars took place last Friday evening, according to The City of Red Deer.

The checks were conducted by the Public Safety Compliance Team.

Ten checks were done in all looking at health codes and food storage, fire codes and exits, as well as occupant loads, staff and patron security, and finally sales relating to liquor.

“The PSCT works together to ensure local hospitality and entertainment establishments provide a safe environment for both patrons and staff,” said Wes Van Bavel, Fire Marshal for Red Deer Emergency Services, “Safe, quality local businesses are what makes our community thrive.”

Violations were addressed at time of safety checks. There were no federal or provincial charges assessed.

The PSCT was formed in 2013 as a partnership between The City, RDES, Red Deer RCMP, Alberta Health Services, Alberta Gaming, and the AGLC.

The City says unannounced safety inspections will continue to be conducted, including at local cannabis retail stores, the first of which will be opening soon at #1-5111 49 Street.
