Grizzlys remain winless, VanHereweghe resigns

The nightmare start to the 2018-19 AJHL season continues for the Olds Grizzlys.

The club lost two more games over the weekend, 3-2 to the Camrose Kodiaks and 12-0 to the top-ranked Brooks Bandits, to fall to 0-14-1 on the season. Olds has been outscored 94-31 this season.

On Friday, Gary VanHereweghe stepped down as GM/associate coach. Joe Murphy remains as the team’s head coach.

“The Olds Grizzlys would like to sincerely thank Garry and his family for his service to our league, and to our club throughout his career,” the team said on its website.

This was VanHereweghe’s first season with the Grizzlys after signing a two-year contract in April.

The Grizzlys have also made several trades in recent days in a bid to shake up their roster. 

On. Oct. 15, the Grizzlys trade Joshua Borynec to Melville (SJHL) in exchange for Shane Sherban. On Oct. 17 they acquired Blair Bush and future considerations from Sherwood Park in exchange for Cody Laskosky.

And on Friday, the Grizzlys traded Logan Bromhead to the Lloydminster Bobcats in exchange for future considerations.

The Grizzlys are back in action Friday when the host Canmore and Saturday as they visit the Calgary Canucks.
