Alberta Party tackles carbon tax at weekend convention

Oct 22, 2018 | 7:19 AM

EDMONTON- Alberta Party Leader Stephen Mandel says his party would eliminate the portion of the current provincial carbon tax on home and business heating.

But Mandel says they would leave it on gas for trucks and cars, given that there are more options in transportation.

Mandel states getting rid of the tax altogether is not the magic wand for a province running multibillion-dollar deficits.

He added the party’s broader climate policy will be rolled out in the weeks to come, but he says he is in favour of fees on large emitters and investments in technology to reduce greenhouse gases.
