Red Deer College Athletics is proud to announce Shayla Sklaruk and Dylan thudium as their Boston Pizza Athletes of the Week.
This past Saturday, Sklaruk had an excellent outing at Running Room Grand Prix #5, hosted by the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings. The first-year student-athlete from Stony Plain was an important member of the RDC Queens Cross Country Running team’s first place finish in the final tune-up before the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Cross Country Running Championships. Sklaruk completed the 6 km course in seventh spot overall (25:44) among ACAC female runners. Shayla and the other RDC runners will now prepare for the ACAC championships on Saturday, October 27. Lakeland College will host the event.
Thudium was a significant contributor in the RDC Kings Hockey team defeating the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings in back-to-back games in Camrose this past weekend. In Friday’s 6 – 3 victory, the Bachelor of Business Administration student recorded 1 goal and 1 assist, and was selected as the Kings Player-of-the-Game. Then on Saturday, the fourth-year centre from Sylvan Lake contributed three assists as he helped guide the Kings to an important 4 – 3 win. With the pair of road wins, the Kings remain unbeaten on the season with a 4 – 0 record and share top spot in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men’s Hockey with the SAIT Trojans.
