The Red Deer Rustlers overcame a 3-0 deficit to win their inaugural game in the North Central Hockey League 5-4 over the Devon Oil Barons on Saturday.

After the Rustlers tied the game 4-4 late in the third period, Dustin Moore scoring the game-winner in the opening minutes of the third – it was his second goal of the game.

“The Barons played a great game, they came out hard and played a more physical game than maybe most of us were expecting,” said Moore. “We came out a little flat in the first period, but we stuck with it, figured it out, and were able to pull out a win in a memorable first game.”

Brennen Francon, Mike Dempster and Dylan Winnicky were the other Rustlers goal scorers. Goaltender Aaron Dyck earned the win.

The Rustlers now look forward to four straight home games, including a rematch with the Barons on October 13 for their home-opener. Doors open at 7 p.m. at the Penhold Multiplex, with puck drop set for 7:45, following a short ceremony at 7:30.
