Stranded youth rescued Friday evening in Clearwater County

Two youths are very lucky after being saved by Rocky Mountain House RCMP and Search and Rescue on Friday night.

Mounties say they received a request for help Friday evening for two stranded youth on ATVs southwest of Highway 11 in the Saunders-Alexo area of Clearwater County.

The youth had become stuck in the muskeg and were a significant distance from their campsite at the Shunda viewpoint.

They were unprepared for a night in the elements.

Fire rescue deployed a thermal drone scan to locate the pair and they were extracted from the heavily wooded area.

Both were returned to their campsite with no injuries.
