Driver killed in Tuesday collision near Lacombe

Mounties have released details about a fatal crash Tuesday afternoon near Lacombe.

According to the Ponoka RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit, police were dispatched at about 3:52 p.m. to the four-vehicle collision on the QE II Highway about five kilometres north of the Highway 12 exit.

Police say a northbound gravel truck struck the rear of a truck and trailer unit which then struck a minivan.  The minivan entered the centre median while the gravel truck and pick-up truck entered the ditch.  A fourth vehicle was also struck but was determined to be driveable.

The male drivers of the gravel truck and the minivan were transported via ground ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.  The male driver of the pick-up truck was pronounced deceased at the collision scene.

Police remained at the collision scene for approximately five hours.
