Salvation Army hosting Thanksgiving Dinner for city’s less fortunate

The Salvation Army Red Deer is once again offering Thanksgiving Dinner to some of our city’s less fortunate.

Major Larry Bridger says the reason the Salvation Army started doing the thanksgiving dinner was because they felt it was necessary.

“It’s not just for the homeless, but you’ll get other people, low income families, seniors who are on their own especially that like to a place to meet and have a good meal,” says Bridger.

The meal will feature all the Thanksgiving favorites, including, turkey, potatoes, gravy, carrots, homemade stuffing, and pie.

 “We’re meeting a need for people who certainly may be able to use the mail, but use the fellowship as well, that’s our reason for doing it.”

The dinner normally has between 200 and 300 guests. Bridger adds that he would love to see people come down to the dinner, and tells everyone to have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Monday’s free community dinner runs from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army at 4837 54 St.
