QE II Highway between Bowden and Crossfield now open after fatal crash

Didsbury RCMP and emergency crews were called to a crash on the QE II Highway between Township Road 292 and Highway 581 (near Carstairs) for a fatal collision around 8 p.m. Tuesday. 

The QE II Highway was closed in both directions between Bowden and Crossfield.

Police reported 20 to 30 vehicles were involved and there was at least one fatality.

The highway reopened to traffic in both directions around 5:30 this morning.

More details are expected later today.

Another driver was killed earlier Tuesday in a crash near Lacombe. 

The three vehicle collision involving a semi, truck and trailer and a minivan happened at about 3:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes near Township Road 412.

One driver was killed while the other two were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Traffic in the area was delayed for several hours as a result of the crash.
