Bowden Institution inmate dies

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is reporting the death of an inmate at Bowden Institution.

Noah Akhiatak died on Tuesday of natural causes while in CSC custody.

At the time of his death, 71-year-old Akhiatak had been serving a sentence of 12 years and six months for indecent assault male, sexual assault, and kidnap – unlawfully confine since September 18, 2014.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, CSC will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
