Oct 1, 2018 | 11:51 AM

A preliminary hearing is underway for a Red Deer RCMP officer charged with sexual assault and breach of trust.

Jason Tress was charged in March 2017 after an investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) that began July 15, 2016.

Tress, who is 31, faces a total of four counts.

One count of sexual assault and one count of criminal breach of trust stem from an incident in 2016.

Another count of criminal breach of trust is in relation to a separate 2016 incident, unrelated to the first.

The second count of sexual assault dates back to an incident in 2012.

Two of the incidents allegedly happened while Tress was on duty, one of which while he was at the Red Deer RCMP detachment in December 2016.

Tress is currently suspended from work and will remain off-duty until his charges are resolved.

The preliminary hearing in Red Deer provincial court is expected to last through Friday.
