Lacombe Regional Airport to undergo major makeover

LACOMBE- Major upgrades are on the way for the Lacombe Regional Airport.

Lacombe city council has awarded the North Taxiway Extension contract to DB Bobcat Services in the amount of $123,215 plus GST.

“As part of Council’s recently adopted strategic plan, cost-sharing arrangements, including capital or operating sponsorships, are to be implemented whenever possible,” said Mayor Grant Creasey. “The taxiway extension will support the development of new hangers, an economic priority for the Airport Committee, and of obvious benefit to the region.”

The project is scheduled for construction later this year.

Project costs will be shared by the City of Lacombe (50 per cent) Lacombe County (25 per cent), and Lacombe Flying Club (25 per cent) each, as per the Airport Agreement.

The announcement follows on the heels of Council’s recent award of the airport’s runway lighting contract to Signal Electric for a hardwired LED light system.

This project was moved up from 2022 to 2018 in order to take advantage of provincial government grant funding.
