Rebels goalies Anders, Fancy ready to tackle challenges

Sep 26, 2018 | 6:34 PM

Two goalies. Two different challenges. One common goal.

Ethan Anders and Byron Fancy each have a steep learning curve ahead of them as they tend the twine for the Red Deer Rebels this season.

For Anders, the challenge is to prove he’s worth of “number one” status after a solid rookie campaign in 2017-18.

Fancy, meantime, is tasked with adjusting to backup status after carrying the mail for his Midget AAA club in Lethbridge that made it all the way to the Telus Cup last season.

Their goaltending coach, first-year guy Kraymer Barnstable, says both are capable of rising to meet their respective challenges.

It’s no secret that any success the Rebels have this season will largely depend on whether they are indeed able to do so.

With a stretch of four games in five nights set to begin Friday night with a visit from the Calgary Hitmen (7 p.m. at the Enmax Centrium) both Anders and Fancy will both see time between the pipes and show where their progress is at now and where it may be headed in the weeks and months to come.
