Temporary overdose prevention site to open Monday

Sep 26, 2018 | 11:02 AM

Red Deer’s temporary overdose prevention site is scheduled to open Monday, according to Alberta Health Services.

AHS Tweeted Wednesday morning that work on the facility is underway, with an ATCO trailer now on-site at the Safe Harbour Society (5246 53 Ave.)

The inside of the trailer, which will be staffed by Turning Point, features four booths where injections will take place. It is the same trailer previously used for supervised consumption at Calgary’s Sheldon Chumir Health Centre.

On August 31, Health Minister Sarah Hoffman asked the working group of partners – which includes Alberta Health, Alberta Health Services, Turning Point, Safe Harbour Society and the City of Red Deer – to target having the temporary facility operating within a month.
