Strong weekend for RDC Athletics

This past weekend, the Red Deer College Queens & Kings Cross Country Running teams earned second at Grand Prix #2 in Calgary while the Queens & Kings Golf teams placed third at North Regionals. Elsewhere, the Soccer Queens split their weekend games while the Kings Soccer team recorded a tie and loss.   

Here is a summary of what happened this past week in RDC Athletics.  

RDC Golf | September 15 – 16 | North Regional | Lac La Biche  

In the first Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) tournament of the season, the RDC Queens & Kings Golf teams placed third. Chloe Sies incredibly shot a 77 on Sunday and finished in a tie for first place (167) with Becky Martin of the Rattlers. Chase Broderson led the way for the Kings on the final day with a 79 and placed third among ACAC male golfers (159). In the new mixed division, RDC earned second. 

Queens Soccer | Saturday, September 15 | Olds

The RDC Queens (2 – 0 – 0) earned a 3 – 0 road victory over the Olds College Broncos (1 – 1 – 1). Haley Nassichuk-Dean, Mikayla Fujimoto and Emily Richard scored for RDC. Goalkeeper Erin Gill was perfect in net and recorded the shutout. 

Queens Soccer | Sunday, September 16 | SAIT  

In the final contest of a two-game road trip, the Red Deer College Queens (2 – 1 – 0) dropped a 5 – 0 decision to the SAIT Trojans (4 – 0 – 0).   

Kings Soccer | Saturday, September 15 | Olds

The RDC Kings (1 – 0 – 1) rallied and earned a 3 – 3 tie against the Olds College Broncos (0 – 2 – 1) in the final minutes. Pedro Humberto Mourao Neto, Theoren Gill and Kyle Bett found the back of the net for the Kings.

Kings Soccer | Sunday, September 16 | SAIT  

In Calgary, the SAIT Trojans (4 – 0 – 0) picked up a 4 – 0 win over the RDC Kings (1 – 1 – 1).  

Cross Country Running | Saturday, September 15 | Grand Prix #2 | SAIT/St. Mary’s University  

The Red Deer College Cross Country Running teams had another excellent outing in Calgary. The Queens & Kings both placed second on a challenging course.   

RDC’s Matthew Hope (25:36) performed extremely well over 8 km in his first grand prix of season and finished in second spot among ACAC men, only five seconds behind SAIT’s Matt Travaglini (25:31).  

In consecutive weeks, Jill Stewart (23:38) led the way for the RDC Queens over 6 km and placed third among ACAC women.
