UCP members to select Lacombe-Ponoka candidate

United Conservative Party members in the Lacombe – Ponoka constituency are set to select their candidate for the next provincial election.

Party members will head to the polls today and tomorrow to choose between current UCP MLA Ron Orr and challenger Thalia Hibbs.

Orr is in his first term as MLA for the riding after being elected under the Wildrose banner in 2015.

Thibbs was elected to Lacombe city council last October.

Rita Reich was also seeking the nomination but withdrew due to personal reasons.

Voting for the candidacy will take play today at the Lacombe Legion from 12-8 p.m. and tomorrow at the Ponoka Legion from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The winner between Orr and Hibbs will be announced Friday evening after the polls close.
