Hollerado supports skateboarding, unveils album title in Red Deer

These are exciting times for Hollerado.

After having great success with their 2017 release “Born Yesterday,” the Ottawa-based rock band shared the name of their upcoming fourth studio album while in Red Deer last week.

“The title of the next Hollerado record is going to be Retaliation Vacation,” said frontman Menno Versteeg.

Hollerado made the announcement on Sept. 6 during an interview at Industry Skate & Snow in Red Deer, where they played an acoustic set.

When asked if it was too early to assume they were working on a follow up to Born Yesterday, the band answered, “It’s not too early, the answer is yes.”

The acoustic gig at Industry Skate and Snow was the very first time the band had played in a skate shop. Hollerado performed that same evening at the “Let the Kids Skate Fundraiser” at Bo’s Bar and Grill.

“We all skateboard ‘cause we’re all really young guys,” says the group. “All our knees are great.”

The event was put on in partnership with the Central Alberta Skateboard Association, Academy Skateboard Collective, and 106.7 The Drive. All proceeds from the fundraiser went to buying skateboards and funding skateboard programs for marginalized youth.

“In total, we raised approximately $6,000 total that will go directly towards purchasing skateboard equipment for youth in need,” says event organizer Everett Tetz. “This was slightly below our target, but we have additional fundraisers planned for the future. This was a major step forward for our group!”

The fundraiser not only featured a concert from Hollerado, but also a silent auction and a mini skate ramp jam. Tetz thanked Bo’s Bar and Grill for their continued support, as well as Hollerado, Industry Skate & Snow, and 106.7 The Drive.

Tetz thanks each of the artists who donated their talents to the event.
