Boundary Fire now 14% contained

WATERTON LAKES NATIONAL PARK – Parks Canada says helicopter attacks on Monday have helped keep the Boundary Fire from growing within Waterton Lakes National Park.

Despite windy conditions, fire growth was limited by strategic attacks from three Canadian helicopters throughout the day.

Crews are looking forward to getting some help from cooler weather over the next few days.

The fire size remains at an estimated 1100 hectares and is 14% contained.

It was first discovered on the American side of the border, in Glacier National Park, Aug. 23 and spread into Canada Sept. 7.

There have been no additional closures in Waterton.

The park remains open, but the fire has forced the closure of Bertha Lake Trail, Lakeshore Trail, Bertha Lake and Bertha Bay Backcountry campgrounds.

Due to helicopter operations, Bison Paddock overlook including road access to Horseshoe Trail are closed.
