Town, County and Village attend Tri-Council meeting

Sep 11, 2018 | 5:59 AM

Rocky Mountain House Town Council, Clearwater County Council and the Village of Caroline Council came together Monday for a tri-council meeting.

Each council brought forward different agenda items, surrounding issues that affect all three municipalities.

The first two items focused on working together and possibility becoming one municipality in the future. The topics will be discussed further at a half-day facilitated regional strategic planning session in November.

The councils also discussed West Country recreational use involving washrooms and sewage dumping stations. They directed administration to provide an educational campaign as to the location of these sites to reduce the burden on certain locations.

That information will be presented through the Intermunicipal Collaboration Committee, which will be made up of members from each municipality.

Although the Intermuncipal Collaboration Committee was created prior to the tri-council meeting, both Clearwater County and the Village of Caroline need to assign members to continue forward.

The plan is to schedule a committee meeting following each council’s organizational meeting this fall.

Other items discussed during the tri-council meeting include municipal wastewater system needs, waste reduction strategies, and regional economic development.

No date has been set for the next meeting, but they are aiming for early 2019.
