RCMP and Alberta Sheriffs focusing on speed and impairment this month

Sep 7, 2018 | 10:51 AM

The dangers of speeding and impairment by alcohol are among the traffic safety focus areas for RCMP and Alberta Traffic Sheriffs this month.

From August 31 to September 3, Alberta Mounties say there were 262 reported motor vehicle collisions in RCMP jurisdiction across the province, four of which involved fatalities with 27 others involving injuries.

In 2017, RCMP say speeding was believed to be a factor in at least one out of five fatal MVC’s, with impairment by drugs or alcohol a factor in at least one out of three fatal MVC’s.

Supt. Rick Gardner, Alberta Traffic Sheriffs says in a press release, “We remind all road users, drivers, students and parents alike, that traffic safety is a shared responsibility, especially during the busy back-to-school season.”
