Some residents to be credited for late utility bill fees

Sep 6, 2018 | 7:19 PM

Some residents who were late on their July 16 utility bills will be credited an amount equal to the three percent fee imposed on their account.

The Town of Rocky Mountain House has decided to credit some ratepayers due to an error with Canada Post.

During the week of August 27, the Town became aware of roughly 300 to 400 account holders claiming they didn’t receive their July 16 utility invoice in the mail.

However, the Town has no way of knowing the exact accounts which received the late bill, as opposed to just paying it late on their own merit.

As a result, residents whose accounts were in good standing during the previous billing cycle will see a credit on their next utility bill in the amount of the three percent penalty.

Residents who paid their May 15 utility bill late, and received another late fee for the July 16 bill will not receive the credit.

This is a one-time adjustment, and the town says it will not issue any refund cheques.

The town recommends all ratepayers sign up for e-billing or the pre-authorized withdrawal program to avoid similar situations in the future.
