XPlore Sport Day in Red Deer this Saturday

Sep 6, 2018 | 10:06 AM

The fourth annual XPlore Sport Day is this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. downtown at Rotary Recreation Park and Servus Arena.

Activities are also happening at The Golden Circle, the Red Deer Tennis Club and the Recreation Centre.

Families and individuals are invited out to demo a number of sports and other activities, some of which will be a part of the upcoming 2019 Canada Winter Games.

“The City of Red Deer is a big promoter of the Government of Alberta’s Active Alberta policy,” says Rob Meckling, Recreation Parks and Culture facilitator. “It’s important that people in the community know there’s opportunity to be involved in programs, to be engaged and active as individuals or as families, but we also have facilities that are free, we have an extensive trail system and lots of public parks and outdoor fitness gyms.”

This week marks four years since Red Deer was awarded the Canada Winter Games, something Meckling was a part of.

“The Games present incredible legacies for communities after they are done,” he adds. “The energy a games brings to the community is tremendous and the impact is so noticeable right away.”

Saturday’s event is free. More details are at RedDeer.ca/xploresport.
