High school football season underway

Several local teams are included in Football Alberta’s initial Top 10 Rankings for the 2018 high school football season.

The defending central Alberta league champion Hunting Hills Lightning open the season as the third-ranked team in the Tier 2 Rankings (school population 750 – 1249). Hunting Hills visits Lloydminster for an exhibition game this Saturday.

In Tier 3 (450-749) the HJ Cody Lakers are also ranked third in the province while Frank Maddock (Drayton Valley) is ranked tenth. The two teams go head to head this Friday in Sylvan Lake.

The Stettler Wildcats are ranked fifth among Tier 4 teams (449 and less). Stettler visits Rocky Mtn. House on Friday.

Other games involving local teams this week include Ponoka at Camrose on Friday while Lindsay Thurber visits Centennial for exhibition play.  Notre Dame visits Henry Wise Wood (Calgary) for an exhibition game on Saturday.
