Sep 4, 2018 | 4:38 PM

Four years to the day after Red Deer was selected as the host city, the 2019 Canada Winter Games celebrated another milestone Tuesday by revealing the first round of torchbearer names for the MNP Canada Games Torch Relay.

Over 100 Canadians were selected from more than 900 nominations.

Lyn Radford, 2019 Canada Winter Games Board Chair says the quality and number of nominations was truly impressive.

“Congratulations to these outstanding leaders in youth, sport and community across our great nation who are making an impact in our communities,” Radford said Tuesday.

The torch relay officially begins Oct. 4 with the lighting of the torch from the Centennial Flame at Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
