UPDATE: Suspicious package delivered to north Red Deer RCMP detachment

Aug 21, 2018 | 1:30 PM

Red Deer RCMP say a suspicious package prompted a closure of the north detachment on Tuesday afternoon.

The closure was a precaution and traffic was not affected around the detachment. Six residences were evacuated, but residents have now been allowed to return to their homes.

Mounties say the Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) was deployed and destroyed the package without incident at about 4 p.m.

“Public safety is always our first priority, and RCMP appreciate the patience of those residents who were temporarily displaced from their homes while we brought in the EDU specialists to deal with the package,” says Constable Derek Turner of the Red Deer RCMP. “This investigation has now been concluded.”
