Red Deer Hospice expansion work underway

Construction on the expansion of the Red Deer Hospice is underway in south Red Deer.

The hospice is adding 15,000 sq.ft. to accomodate six new resident rooms and compassionate end-of-life care to 100 additional residents.

It will also allow for three enhanced family areas, which include a living room, coffee bar and quiet areas.

Multipurpose rooms are planned for educational opportunities and a full basement will provide staff additional space for storage of medical, financial and event materials.

A second floor will house offices and other multipurpose rooms.

A $5.2 million fundraising campaign to make these changes possible was launched in early June. Alberta Health Services has committed to an enhanced funding model to support the hospice once the project is finished.

Construction should be complete by winter 2019.
