Red Deer woman desperate to find late mother’s guitar stolen in Calgary

A Red Deer woman on vacation in Washington is hoping the public can keep an eye out for a guitar she says was stolen on her first night away.

Jordan Baptie flew to DC Sunday night, parking her car at a friend’s house in southwest Calgary.

By morning, the windows were smashed and several items were stolen from inside, including a Morris acoustic guitar which used to belong to her late mother.

Additionally, a Yamaha keyboard which Baptie’s father had purchased for her years ago was also taken. She believes her friends back in Canada have found the keyboard nearby as it is heavy and was likely dropped by the thieves, but she’s still desperately hoping to retrieve the guitar.

“It was one of the first guitars she bought. It’s been around for a very long time,” Baptie says. “She was in a band and they toured across Canada. It’s the only guitar I’ve ever seen her play.”

Baptie picked up how to play the guitar about a year ago and performed at her father’s wedding over the August long weekend.

The guitar was taken inside a hard black case which also contained old sheet music and a burgundy strap. The keyboard was in a softer black case and was with a pedal and music stand. There are no markings on the guitar, but it does have a plug-in.

She’s asking Calgarians and anyone else who may frequent pawn shops or buy and sell sites like Kijiji to keep their eyes peeled and to contact her at jordandenaeb@gmail.com or call police if they think they may have found her items.
