Alberta Party announces Red Deer – South candidate

Aug 14, 2018 | 1:12 PM

The Alberta Party has announced the candidate who will run in Red Deer – South during next year’s provincial election.

Ryan McDougall, a family law mediator and private practice paralegal will carry the party’s banner next spring.

“Red Deer South and our entire region was hit hard by the economic downturn. We need leadership in Alberta that understands some people feel left behind and has a real plan that will get the economy moving again,” McDougall said.

The 40-year-old is new to politics but says she made the decision to run after phone calls to MLAs went unanswered.

“I wanted to share ideas on how to improve access to legal services and improve our justice system, but no one responded to me. It was an eye-opener and pushed me to step up and get off the sidelines,” she said.

It’s unknown who the RDC graduate will be going up against.

Thus far, no other party has declared a candidate, though four people have their name in the running to become the UCP candidate in Red Deer – South.
