Drayton Valley council begins to amend bylaws to incorporate cannabis

 The Town of Drayton Valley passed the first reading to amend the current land use bylaw to incorporate rules around cannabis. 

The amendments include definitions related to cannabis sales and signage, and add regulations on retail sales and cannabis-free public spaces.

The hours a facility can be open are from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. seven days a week, slightly adjusted then the 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. times liqour stores are open until in Drayton Valley. 

When it comes to cannabis retail store setbacks, council decided on a 150 metres setback for a store in proximity to a school, playground or sports field. A 100 metre setback will be in place surrounding the Drayton Valley Hospital.
