Lacombe city councillor seeks UCP nomination

A Lacombe city councillor is pursuing a move to provincial politics.

Thalia Hibbs is throwing her hat into the ring for the UCP nomination for the Lacombe-Ponoka constituency for next year’s provincial election.

Incumbent MLA Ron Orr is also seeking the UCP nomination for the riding. Orr is in his first term in office after being elected under the Wildrose banner in 2015. Ponoka County resident Rita Reich is also challenging Orr for the nomination.

Thibbs is less than a year into her first term on Lacombe City Council after being elected. She is a former Trustee and Board Chair for the St. Thomas Aquinas Roman (STAR) Catholic Schools.

The next provincial election is expected to take place in May 2019.
