Brazeau County council agrees to amending bylaws for cannabis

Brazeau County Council has sparked its first motion in the steps to legalized recreational marijuana. 

At its regular council meeting on Tuesday a majority of councillors agreed with amending current land use bylaws to accommodate cannabis retail stores and cannabis production and distribution facilities.

Councillors Gressler and Wheale were the sole opposing votes. 

Since March the county has been consulting the community in advance of the legalization of pot, with a survey being distributed as well as open houses and workshops being held. 

Potential new bylaws, such as a smoking bylaw to address public consumption, may be brought to council at a future date but were not discussed at Tuesday’s meeting.
