QE 2 / Gaetz Avenue Interchange update:

Jul 18, 2018 | 7:13 AM

RED DEER- With construction of the new southbound access to the QE 2 underway, permanent closure of the frontage road along Gasoline Alley West (between the businesses and the QE 2) will take place this week (weather dependent).

Access to all businesses along Gasoline Alley West will be maintained via Leva Avenue.

This closure will result in some traffic pattern changes:

– In the short-term, southbound access to Gasoline Alley West will be provided directly from the QE 2 through the Leva Avenue roundabout.
– Permanent access to Gasoline Alley West will be provided via a new collector-distributor road currently under construction.

This change is necessary to provide safer access and to accommodate additional lanes on the QE 2.

Access to Gasoline Alley West for northbound traffic remains unchanged.

Alberta Transportation is currently working with Red Deer County to provide an alternate commercial truck rest area on the QE 2 and Highway 42, south of Red Deer.

It is anticipated to open later this year.

A temporary traffic change will be in effect along the QE 2, between Highway 2A (Taylor Drive) and south of Gaetz Avenue starting July 18 (weather dependent).

Southbound QE 2 traffic will be detoured onto the northbound lanes where both northbound and southbound traffic will operate.

This temporary traffic pattern change will be in place for the summer.

Reduced speed limits remain in effect.

Motorists are asked to drive safely and obey the speed limits through the construction zone.
